Grape planting and harvesting time

Grape planting and harvesting time

Grape planting time

The best time to plant grapes is in spring, specifically around March, when the temperature stabilizes at around 15 degrees. The climate and temperature are more suitable, which is conducive to the growth of grapes. In some areas, the temperature will not be too low in winter, so it is also okay to plant in autumn around October. They will germinate well in the spring of the following year.

Grape harvest time

There are many varieties of grapes, and the planting time and maturity time are also different. The earliest harvest can be in late May or early June. Those grown outdoors will gradually mature from July until around the end of October. If grown in a greenhouse, they can mature 2 months earlier.

Key points for high-yield grape cultivation

1. Soil conditions

Grapes grow best in soil rich in organic matter. When planting grapes, you need to choose loose and breathable sandy loam, and then add rotted chicken and duck manure and manure to the soil to make it more fertile. You also need to spray potassium permanganate solution on the soil for disinfection to maintain the healthy growth of grapes.

2. Seedling selection

Choose grape seedlings with well-developed, full and disease-free root systems. After selection, they need to be properly pruned, leaving at least 3 strong buds on each seedling. The side branches can be cut shorter, leaving about 15 cm in length. Then plant them in the soil and compact the soil to prevent the grapes from lodging.

3. Fertilization method

Grapes are fertilizer-loving plants. When growing grapes, it is necessary to apply a thin layer of cake fertilizer during the peak growth season of the plants to promote rapid flowering and fruiting of the grapes. During the bud formation period of the grapes, superphosphate or potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be sprayed on the flowers and leaves, and the withered leaves and excessive flower buds can be cut off to save nutrients.
