Kiwi cutting time and method

Kiwi cutting time

When taking kiwifruit cuttings, you have to choose the right time. The right time can promote the survival of the cuttings. Generally, soft branches are chosen for cuttings. The cutting time can be selected from early July to late September each year. Cuttings in this period are conducive to survival and have a higher survival rate.

Kiwi cutting method

1. Cutting soil

Kiwi fruit is suitable for planting in loose, breathable, well-drained sandy loam. If you prepare it yourself, you can use a mixture of fine sand, humus, vermiculite, etc. After mixing, spray potassium permanganate solution into it to disinfect and kill bacteria and insect eggs in the soil.

2. Cut the cuttings

Cut branches from well-growing and healthy mother plants as cuttings. You can cut strong, semi-lignified young branches, and then cut them into sections. Each section should be about 4-6 cm. Make sure each section has 1-2 axillary buds. Keep a leaf on the top of the cutting, remove the leaves on the bottom, and keep the cut flat.

3. Prepare cuttings

Soak the cut cuttings in the rooting solution for about half an hour to an hour, take them out after soaking and place them in a cool place to dry, use a small wooden stick to make holes in the soil, then insert the cuttings diagonally and gently press the soil.

Kiwifruit cutting maintenance

After kiwifruit cuttings, pay attention to shade and place it in a cool, well-ventilated environment. Water it thoroughly once to keep the soil slightly moist. Then water it every 3-5 days and maintain the temperature at around 20 degrees. This can promote rooting and survival.
