How to prune Milan and the time and method of pruning

Milan pruning time

In fact, there is no fixed pruning time for Milan. Except for the seedling stage and early spring, pruning in these two periods is necessary. In daily life, pruning should also be carried out according to the growth conditions of the plants. This can make the plants fuller and more beautiful, increase the number of flowers, and greatly improve the ornamental value.

Milan pruning method

1. Seedlings

During the seedling stage of Milan, you can cut off some messy branches and top it, leaving only a 15-20 cm main trunk. The old branches and dead leaves at the bottom should also be cut off. Try to avoid letting the main trunk of Milan grow out of the soil. Branching growth can promote the plant's crown to be more lush and maintain a better plant shape.

2. Growth period

It is best to prune Milan during its growth period before and after flowering, cutting off messy branches, dead branches, diseased branches and overlapping branches. After pruning, place the plant in a ventilated place for 7-10 days to slow down the growth.

3. Spring

The weather is warm in spring, and Milan grows faster. You can move the potted plants outdoors for maintenance, and use sterilized scissors to perform short pruning. Shorten the branches to promote the sprouting of side branches and make the plant fuller.

4. Summer

The temperature is relatively high in summer, so it is not suitable for large-scale pruning. You can cut off the inner branches, diseased branches, and weak branches to help the plants ventilate better and promote nutrient concentration for later flowering. When pruning, try to be symmetrical to avoid affecting the overall shape.

5. After flowering

After the Milan flowering period, it is necessary to cut off the remaining flowers in time and pinch the top of the plant, shorten the branches in the center of the plant, promote the sprouting of more new branches, and be more conducive to flowering in the second year.
