When is the best time to plant gardenia cuttings?

When is the best time to plant gardenia cuttings?

Gardenia cutting time

Gardenia can be propagated by cuttings between March and October each year, and it is most suitable to do so in April each year because the climate is suitable and the temperature is maintained at around 20°C, which is more conducive to improving the survival rate and promoting growth.

Gardenia cutting method

1. Select branches : First, choose relatively mature branches from healthy and sturdy plants for cuttings. Cut branches about 10 cm long, and then insert them into rooting water and soak them for 10 minutes.

2. Prepare the soil : Because gardenia is an acidic plant, choosing acidic soil will relatively increase the survival rate of the plant.

3. Prepare for cuttings : Do not insert the cuttings too deep, about 3-4 cm. After cuttings, water them thoroughly and then place them in a cool place. They will take root in about forty days. After taking root, you can transplant them into pots.

Precautions for gardenia cuttings

After the gardenia is cut, it should be placed in a well-ventilated place with scattered light, not in direct sunlight, and do not fertilize the newly cut branches. Wait 7 days before fertilizing according to the condition of the plant.

However, do not use concentrated fertilizer when fertilizing, otherwise it will burn the cuttings. It is best to apply animal feces, which is less irritating to the cuttings and easier for them to accept.
