When is the best time to plant Chinese cabbage in winter?

Winter cabbage planting time

Winter cabbage is mostly planted in autumn, and is sown within 3-5 days before or after the beginning of autumn. Different varieties have different sowing times. Early-maturing varieties are sown earlier, and can be sown in early to mid-August, while late-maturing varieties can be sown in late August. The climate in different regions is different, so the sowing time is also different. The planting time can be delayed or advanced according to the actual situation.

Winter cabbage planting method

1. Prepare the soil

Chinese cabbage can be grown in both the north and the south. It has low requirements for soil and can grow in many types of soil. In order to promote growth, it is best to provide sandy loam that is rich in organic matter, loose and fertile, prepare the land in advance and apply decomposed organic fertilizer.

2. Prepare seeds

Before sowing Chinese cabbage, you must select the seeds carefully. The seeds must be cold-resistant and disease-free. They should be dried in the sun for 1-2 days before sowing and then germinated. The seeds can be soaked in warm water at about 55 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes and then mixed with Benomyl for sterilization and disinfection.

3. Sowing

Sow the cabbage seeds and pay attention to the planting density. Cover them with fine soil after sowing and water them thoroughly to keep them moist. During the growth period, apply fertilizer in time to ensure good nutrition and remove weak seedlings.

Precautions for planting Chinese cabbage in winter

1. During the seedling stage of Chinese cabbage, you can provide it with quick-acting fertilizer to increase the growth rate of the plant. During the growth period of Chinese cabbage, you can use decomposed organic fertilizer or wood ash. During the cabbage heading period, you can use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to allow the plant to grow better.

2. Chinese cabbage is prone to diseases during its growth process. During the maintenance process, you can spray it with carbendazim solution every three days and spray the soil with thiophanate-methyl solution once a week. You can also regularly remove rotten and dry leaves of the cabbage to improve ventilation between plants and allow the plants to grow healthily.
