When and how to plant blueberries

Blueberry Planting Time

Blueberries are usually planted from April to July. If they are grown in a greenhouse, it is suitable to plant them from April to May. If they are grown outdoors, it is suitable to plant them in June. If they are late-maturing varieties, they are suitable to plant them in July. Usually, blueberries can mature in one season, and the fruits will turn blue when they are ripe.

How to grow blueberries

1. Selection of seedlings

Before planting blueberries, you must select suitable varieties, choose varieties with high yield, large berries, good resistance, and blueberry seedlings that are 2-3 years old and growing well. Try to choose seedlings whose roots have not yet filled the nutrient pot.

2. Potting soil

Blueberries grow vigorously in weakly acidic soil, so when planting blueberries, you can use loose and permeable humus soil, peat soil, and sand mixed in a ratio of 3:2:1. When choosing a flower pot, it is best to choose a clay pot or a ceramic pot, or you can choose a purple clay pot, which will be more ventilated and breathable, and the roots can breathe more easily and drain easily.

3. Moisture

Blueberries are relatively resistant to waterlogging. The principle of watering is not to water unless the soil is dry, and to water thoroughly when you do water. In addition, you can water normally in spring and autumn, and increase the frequency of watering in summer to help cool down the plant. Strengthen ventilation after watering, and in winter, water once before hibernation.

4. Fertilization

In the early stage of planting, you can use decomposed cow, sheep, rabbit manure or leaf mold to fertilize. When applying topdressing to blueberries, you must control the concentration, and generally apply it once every half a month. Fertilizers can be cake fertilizer water or nitrogen fertilizers.

Notes on blueberry planting

There are few diseases and pests during the growth period of blueberries, but you can prepare some pesticides to control pests, such as methyl thiophanate, carbendazim, etc. Cutting off old branches in time during the growth period can improve the photosynthesis of the plant and help it produce beautiful fruits.
