Cultivation methods and precautions of red Guanyin bamboo

Red Guanyin Bamboo is a high-quality ornamental bamboo , a clumping bamboo variety, famous for its thick bamboo leaves and bright red bamboo body. Not only can it be used as an indoor ornamental plant, it also symbolizes peace and auspiciousness and is deeply loved by people. So what are the cultivation methods and precautions of red Guanyin bamboo? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil selection

Red Guanyin bamboo likes loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil. The substrate can be prepared using leaf mold, garden soil, coarse sand or cinders to ensure good drainage and air permeability.

2. Lighting management

Red Guanyin bamboo likes plenty of light, but needs proper shade during the high temperatures in summer to prevent the leaves from being sunburned. For daily maintenance, it should be placed in a well-lit location, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

3. Temperature control

Red Guanyin bamboo likes a warm environment and has a certain degree of cold resistance, so as long as the temperature is kept above 10℃, it can basically survive. However, in the north in winter, it should be grown indoors as much as possible so that there is heating in the winter to ensure that the red Guanyin bamboo can safely survive the winter.

4. Watering tips

When watering, you must follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and watering when the soil is wet. The first time you water the plant after potting it, you should water it thoroughly, and then just keep the soil moist. When the temperature is high in summer, water evaporates quickly, so the watering frequency can be increased appropriately; when the temperature is low in winter, water evaporates slowly, so watering should be reduced and the soil in the pot should be kept dry.

5. Reasonable fertilization

Fertilization is generally based on organic fertilizer . During the growth period of the plant, diluted decomposed organic fertilizer, such as fully fermented rice water or cake fertilizer, can be applied once a month. When applying fertilizer, pay attention to controlling the concentration to avoid fertilizer damage.

6. Notes

(1) Check plants regularly to detect and treat diseases and insect pests in a timely manner.

(2) In the hot summer, be sure to spray water on the leaves and sprinkle water on the ground to keep the air moist.

(3) During the growing season, red Guanyin bamboo will continuously grow new stems from the root zone. If they are too tall and affect the overall composition, the high part can be cut off.

(4) Replace the potting soil every 1-2 years. If you are growing hydroponically, remember to change the water once a week. You can use purified water or filtered water.

In general, red Guanyin bamboo is not only a beautiful plant, but also has a certain air purification effect, making it suitable for indoor viewing and maintenance. Through the above cultivation measures, you can also grow healthy and lush red Guanyin bamboo.
