Where does lotus root grow? Where does it usually grow?

Lotus root growth habits

Lotus roots are suitable for growing in hot and rainy summers. When choosing soil for lotus fields, deep and sticky soil is preferred. Its root system is weakly distributed and its regeneration ability is poor. It is easily affected by high concentrations of fertilizers and salt, so special attention needs to be paid.

Where do lotus roots like to grow?

1. Soil selection

Lotus roots usually grow in deep and viscous soil, such as ponds, rice fields, paddy fields, shallow ponds, lakes, river bays, etc. When lotus roots grow in the mud in the water, they absorb the nutrients they need by extending their roots.

2. Lighting conditions

Lotus root is a sun-loving plant that does not like dark places. It requires sufficient sunlight during its growing period, which will be more conducive to the growth of stems and leaves. When it receives sufficient sunlight in the later stage of its growth, it will be beneficial to the flowering and fruiting of the lotus root.

Lotus root growth environment and conditions

1. Growth conditions

The most suitable temperature for the whole growing season of lotus root is 25-35℃, and the water temperature is 24-29℃. The lotus root should be plucked before harvesting to prevent rust from attaching. Its leaf navel, petiole and underground stem have interconnected tissues, so the petiole should not be broken to avoid water ingress and plant rot.

2. Growth environment

Lotus root has strong adaptability to soil requirements. The soil layer generally needs to be 15 to 25 cm deep and have a pH value of 5.6 to 7.5.
