How to save sweet corn seeds

Sweet corn has seeds, which are formed through pollination and fertilization of the ovule. The seeds consist of three parts: the seed coat, embryo, and endosperm. The sweet corn needs to be harvested after it matures naturally.

If you want to save sweet corn seeds, you can rub off the seeds when they are ripe, and then select those mature, impurity-free, and high-purity seeds to save, and store them in a warehouse.

Sweet corn seed propagation

Sweet corn can be propagated by seeds. It is usually planted in spring from April to May, and no later than July. The soil should be kept slightly moist after sowing. It takes about 3-10 days to germinate after planting.

Sweet corn seed planting method

1. Choose the soil

Sweet corn is not very demanding in terms of soil. It prefers loose, deep, organic-rich soil. It can be planted in chernozem, chestnut-calcium soil, and sandy loam. The soil must be prepared and fertilized before planting.

2. Sowing

Sweet corn seeds can be sown directly by digging holes. It is best to dig holes in the ground and control the row spacing at about 65 cm. After sowing, you can water them according to the soil moisture conditions. When they grow to have 5 leaves, you can thin out the seedlings and remove the diseased and weak seedlings.
