Can sunflowers be grown hydroponically?

Although sunflowers can be grown hydroponically, it is very troublesome to raise them. Their flowering is often affected by water problems. Therefore, if you don’t have much time to care for sunflowers, it is best to grow them in soil. Soil cultivation is relatively simpler than hydroponics.

Sunflower hydroponic cultivation methods and key points

1. Vase and water quality

Because the sunflower has a long root stem, it is best to choose a vase with a long mouth, and of course it is best to choose a translucent vase, which can better help the growth of the sunflower. The water in the vase must be very clean, preferably purified water or mineral water.

2. Bevel cutting

Before hydroponically growing sunflowers, the incision at the lower end of the stem should be changed to a 45° inclined incision in order to increase the sunflower's ability to absorb water. Because hydroponically grown sunflowers have no roots, they will wither if water is not replenished in time.

3. Soak in hot water

Soak the ends of the sunflowers in hot water for a while to prevent the loss of nutrients. The water should be as hot as possible for better results.

4. Insert in water

The soaked sunflower can be placed directly in a vase. Do not expose it to direct sunlight during care, otherwise it will wither and die.

Precautions for growing sunflowers in water

1. Add nutrient solution:

During the period of water cultivation of sunflowers, you can add nutrients to the water in the vase. This is the fastest and most effective way to supplement nutrients for hydroponic sunflowers.

2. Use tea to grow flowers:

Tea can also be used to grow sunflowers, and it can prolong their flowering time. Make tea with tea leaves, filter out the tea leaves, cool the tea water, and replace the water in the bottle. Change it once a day to keep the flowers fresh. The stronger the tea water, the better the preservation effect.

3. Change water frequently:

The water for hydroponic sunflowers needs to be changed every day, and the oxygen content in the shaded water can allow it to grow better. Even if you grow sunflowers in tea water, you need to change the water every day. Also, do not spray water mist on the sunflowers during maintenance.
