At present, the average growth cycle of Astragalus in China is about 2-3 years, while the cycle of Zizhou Astragalus is as long as five years. Astragalus is generally sown in late April every year. The yield of Astragalus in the 5-year growth period is generally about 1100-1700 kilograms of seeds.

Astragalus growth rate

Astragalus grows very fast. The growth and development process of Astragalus can be divided into: seedling growth period, greening period, bud formation and flowering period, fruiting period and withering and dormancy period. The annual growth period is 210 to 220 days.

Astragalus Growth Cycle Management

In autumn, an average of 1,500 kilograms of fresh astragalus can be harvested per mu. About 5.5 kilograms of fresh astragalus is equivalent to 1 kilogram of dry astragalus, so 1,500 kilograms of fresh astragalus is about 270 kilograms after drying.

Temperature management: Astragalus prefers a cool climate and is afraid of heat. The suitable temperature for germination is 15-30℃, and the temperature for growth is 18-26℃.

Fertilization management: Astragalus requires a large amount of fertilizer for growth. It can be combined with tillage and weeding and fertilization 1 to 2 times a year, and 500 to 1,000 kg of manure should be applied per 667 m2 furrows; chemical fertilizers should be mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and nitrogen fertilizers and phosphorus fertilizers can be applied in the seedling stage, 15 to 17 kg of ammonium sulfate or 10 to 12 kg of urea, 7 to 8 kg of potassium sulfate, and 10 kg of superphosphate per 667 m2; the flowering and pod stage is the period of vigorous vegetative and reproductive growth of Astragalus, and topdressing is very important at this time. Generally, 5 to 10 kg of superphosphate and 7 to 10 kg of nitrogen fertilizer are applied per 667 m2, and 400 times of new lipid film solution is sprayed to promote fruiting and seed maturity.
