How to grow papaya

How to grow papaya

1. Soil

Papaya has strong adaptability to soil, but it is best to choose loose, fertile, slightly acidic sandy or alluvial soil. Normally, the soil should be loosened frequently to maintain its permeability. The most common way is to apply sulfate fertilizers to the soil, such as ammonium sulfate, potassium sulfate, etc., which can slowly acidify the soil.

2. Lighting

It has high requirements for light and should be guaranteed to receive sufficient light every day. Under insufficient light conditions, the stems are thinner, the internodes and petioles are long, the leaves are thin, and the flower buds are poorly developed. However, during the hot and bright seasons of July and August, you should consider providing proper shading to prevent the fruit from being sunburned and affecting its quality.

3. Temperature

It prefers a warm climate, and the optimal annual temperature for its growth is 22-26℃. When the temperature is around 10℃, the growth tends to be slow, at 5℃ young organs begin to suffer frost damage, and at 0℃ the leaves wither. Too high temperature is also not conducive to growth and development.

4. Watering

Keeping the surrounding environment moist is conducive to its growth, and watering should be done in time during the dry period in summer. It can be carried out in a variety of ways such as sprinkler irrigation and drip irrigation. Irrigation is recommended if conditions permit.

5. Fertilization

Because it requires more nutrients and trace elements such as CA and K for its growth, regular fertilization is essential. It is recommended to apply poultry and livestock manure or decomposed cake fertilizer once in early spring and before winter every year to enable it to grow healthily.

6. Notes

1. Cultivation and weeding should be carried out 4-5 times throughout the year, which will greatly increase the soil permeability and nutrient supply, and help its growth.

2. The main pests are red spiders and snails. Pesticides should be sprayed regularly and regularly to prevent and control pests.
