How long is the growth cycle of a ginkgo tree?

Ginkgo Tree Growth Introduction

Ginkgo grows in areas with an altitude of 500-1000 meters and is suitable for planting in acidic yellow soil with good drainage. It is widely planted in China, from Shenyang to Guangzhou, from the 40-1000 meters above sea level in East China, to Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.

Ginkgo tree growth cycle

Ginkgo prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight, has a wide adaptability to climate and soil, and has a certain degree of resistance to high temperatures and cold, but its growth will be inhibited. It is suitable for planting in acidic and neutral soils that are well-drained, loose, and fertile. It is not salt-alkali tolerant and is afraid of waterlogging.

The growth cycle of the ginkgo tree is very long. It takes 20 to 30 years from planting to fruiting. Some even take 40 to 50 years to bear fruit.

Ginkgo tree growth rate

Ginkgo trees grow very slowly. First, you need to harvest large, strong seeds, peel them and dry them in the shade, then plant them in sandy loam with good permeability. If you take good care of them, it will take 20-30 years to bear fruit. If you use cuttings, they will take root in about one and a half to two months, and the time to fruit will be shortened.

Ginkgo Tree Growth Cycle Management

The older the ginkgo tree is, the higher its yield will be. The yield of a single tree is 600 kg, and if the yield is good, it can be 1,000 kg.

Temperature management: Ginkgo can adapt to a wide range of temperatures. The annual average temperature of 8 to 20 degrees can meet its growth needs. It can tolerate temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. Some varieties can even tolerate short periods of minus 32 degrees Celsius, but their growth is weak and the amount of growth is very small.

Fertilization management: Ginkgo likes fertilizer and is resistant to fertilizer. Sufficient base fertilizer can be applied before planting. In the later period of vigorous growth, organic fertilizer and nutritionally balanced compound fertilizer need to be applied.
