Sweet potato growth cycle

Sweet potato growth characteristics: After sweet potatoes are planted, they first enter the period of fibrous root development. At this time, the stems and leaves develop slowly, and then they enter the period of stem and leaf growth. Finally, its tubers swell and the fruits continue to mature.

Sweet potatoes have different growth cycles due to different planting times. The growth cycle of sweet potatoes in spring is about 160 to 200 days, while that in summer is 110 to 120 days.

Sweet potato growth rate

The growing process of sweet potatoes: first buy sweet potato seedlings, then dip the roots in mud and plant them in the soil. When the frost is about to fall in autumn, they can be harvested.

The growing period of sweet potatoes requires more than 120 days of frost-free period.

Sweet potato growth cycle management

The yield of commonly cultivated sweet potatoes can reach 6,000 kilograms per mu, and high-yield cultivated ones can reach more than 10,000 kilograms per mu.

Temperature management: Sweet potatoes are not cold-resistant and prefer a warm environment. They will not take root when the ground temperature is around 10 degrees, and will take 5 days to take root at 15 degrees. The stems and leaves grow fast when the temperature is 25 to 28 degrees, and grow even faster when the temperature is above 30 degrees.

Fertilization management: Although sweet potatoes are resistant to barrenness, they have a long growing period, strong fertilizer absorption capacity, and consume a lot of nutrients in the soil. Therefore, sufficient base fertilizer must be applied, and topdressing is needed in time in the early stage of root expansion. Foliar fertilizer should be used scientifically to stimulate plant vitality and improve quality and yield.
