Agave seed sowing method

Agave seed sowing method

Agave seed sowing time

Agave seeds are planted in spring from April to May every year. They can only bear fruit through cross-pollination, and old plants that have been maintained for more than 10 years can bloom and bear fruit.

Generally, when sowing, we need to prepare agave seeds in advance. The seeds should be healthy and plump. The growing season is summer, so it is not suitable to sow in summer.

Agave seed sowing method

When planting, choose healthy golden-edged agave seeds, wash them in water, and place them in wet sand to germinate. After they turn white, take them out and sow them on the surface of culture soil with a high particle content, and cover them with a thin layer of soil. After that, keep them warm and water them in time. After about half a month, they will be able to germinate smoothly.

Seed treatment

Before sowing agave, you can soak the seeds in clean water, then place them in moist sand to germinate, and after they turn white, sow them in soil mixed with leaf mold and coarse river sand.

Seed germination

Agave seeds can be sown after being harvested in April or May. They will germinate in about half a month, and the seedlings grow slowly.

Seed germination

After the agave seeds germinate, the management of water and fertilizer needs to be strengthened. Fertilize once a month during the growing season. In summer, it grows vigorously, so it is necessary to water it in time to keep the leaves green and tender. It is also necessary to shade it to avoid burning the leaves. After autumn, watering should be controlled and fertilization should be stopped. If it is potted, the side shoots should be pruned in time to improve the ornamental value.
