How long is the growth cycle of carrots?

Introduction to Carrot Growth

Carrots grow better in loose, well-drained and deep soil, and even better in sandy loam. They are native to the Mediterranean coast and are widely planted in my country, with the largest planting areas in Henan, Shandong, Yunnan, Zhejiang and other provinces.

Carrot growth cycle

Carrots grow well in dry air conditions and sufficient light. The soil must be permeable and fertile, with sufficient and comprehensive nutrients and a large temperature difference, which is conducive to the formation of fleshy roots.

It takes about two years for carrots to grow from seeds after sowing. Usually the first year is the growth period, and it takes about two months for its fleshy roots to grow. The second year is the reproductive growth period, during which carrots will bloom and bear fruit.

Carrot growth rate

Carrots grow very fast. Two cotyledons and one true leaf will grow 21 days after sowing. The plants should be fertilized with a thin layer of fertilizer, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium fertilizer or thin organic fertilizer. The demand for water is very high during the period of fleshy root expansion. Water the plants in time, but try not to leave water.

Carrots grow very fast and can be harvested in 50 days if planted properly. When mature, the heart leaves will turn yellow, the outer leaves will be a little dry and yellow, and the roots will tip out of the soil.

Carrot growth cycle management

With proper management and selection of good varieties, and if there is sufficient fertilizer and water, the yield per mu of carrots can generally reach 9,000-13,000 kilograms. Carrots are long in shape, pointed at the bottom and relatively large at the top.

Temperature management: The suitable growth temperature of carrots is between 15-25 degrees. It likes to grow in a cool climate, with the most suitable temperature during the day between 23-25 degrees and at night between 12-15 degrees.

Fertilization management: Carrots are mainly fertilized with nitrogen fertilizer in the early stage of planting. Within 30-50 days after sowing, an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied. Carrots absorb less phosphorus fertilizer, about 1/3 of the nitrogen amount.
