How to plant pansy? Planting time and method

Pansy planting time

Pansies prefer a relatively cool environment, and their seeds can germinate better when the temperature is between 18-20 degrees. Therefore, the sowing time is usually in spring or autumn. It is recommended to sow between early August and mid-September in autumn. After planting, the seedlings will be stable throughout the winter and can resume growth in early spring of the following year.

How to grow pansy

1. Sowing time: Pansies can be sown in autumn so that they can bloom in spring. They can also be sown in summer, from August to September, and they can bloom in autumn.

2. Sowing conditions: Prepare good varieties of plump seeds and plant them in moist soil. The ambient temperature should be between 18 and 21 degrees. Provide shade when the light is strong. The seeds will germinate after 7 days. After germination, keep the temperature at 10 to 13 degrees and they will bloom soon.

3. Transplanting: When the pansy seedlings grow 3-4 leaves, they can be transplanted. There must be soil at the roots during transplanting to prevent the plant from surviving. In addition, the transplanting site should be chosen to be a place with good drainage and ventilation. The temperature should not be too high, and there should not be too much water, otherwise it will affect its growth.

4. Post-maintenance: After planting pansies, they need to be fertilized in appropriate amounts. Nitrogen fertilizer should be applied during the growth period, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied during flowering to promote flowering. It can also effectively extend the flowering period. Withered, diseased branches and flowers should be pruned in time to make the nutrients more concentrated.

How to plant the pansy I just bought

After the newly bought pansy adapts to the new environment, you should provide it with more than 4 hours of mild light every day. This will allow it to grow better and its flowers will bloom better. In addition, the temperature should be kept at 15-25℃, not higher than 30℃, otherwise its flower buds may not open.

How to grow pansies quickly

1. Light: Pansy requires full sunlight and is resistant to strong light. It can be grown outdoors in the summer. If the light is too weak, the plant will not bloom well.

2. Soil and water: Pansy is not very strict about soil requirements, but try to grow it in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. However, it has relatively high requirements for water, requiring sufficient water and no waterlogging in the soil.

3. Temperature: Pansy does not have high temperature requirements, and it is best to control it at 15-25℃. It has weak low temperature resistance, and the wintering temperature needs to be above 0 degrees, otherwise the plant will be damaged by frost. The temperature cannot be higher than 30 degrees, so as not to affect the differentiation of flower buds and shorten the flowering period.

4. Fertilizer: Pansy is not particularly demanding on fertilizer during its growth process. Just apply a thin liquid fertilizer once every 7 days. Stop fertilizing after winter.

Matters Needing Attention in Potted Planting of Pansy

Since pansies have poor cold resistance, they need to be watered moderately in winter, mainly by spraying water. When the weather is dry, you can wipe the leaves with a wet cloth to replenish moisture and clean the leaves. Do not water excessively, and watering can be done at noon.

During the maintenance process of pansy, we can pinch and top the plant after it sprouts to promote branching and effectively control its plant height.
