What fertilizer is good for rose topdressing

What fertilizer is good for rose topdressing

Rose topdressing time

The best time to fertilize roses is in spring from April to June. At this time in spring, branches and buds begin to sprout. You can apply some thin organic fertilizer or cake fertilizer every month to provide sufficient nutrients.

What fertilizer should be used for rose topdressing

First of all, fertilizer is needed during the vigorous growth period of roses. Secondly, fertilizer is needed when the flower buds differentiate and reach the bud formation stage. It can also be applied when changing the soil. Cake fertilizer water is used during the growth period, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution is used during the flowering period. Wood ash or bone meal can be used as base fertilizer.

Note that the cake fertilizer water needs to be fully diluted with water before application. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate also needs to be diluted. The concentration can be 0.2%. The base fertilizer is directly mixed into the substrate. Top dressing during the growth period is generally applied once a week.

Should I use urea or compound fertilizer for rose top dressing?

Roses can be grown with chemical fertilizers, which include nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, and nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer. Inorganic fertilizers contain high levels of effective ingredients, are easily soluble in water, and are easily absorbed by plant roots. They are also called quick-acting fertilizers.

Rose topdressing method

Roses need top dressing after flowering to promote the next flowering. After autumn, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and less nitrogen fertilizer. In addition, fertilizer should be applied after each pruning. When applying foliar fertilizer, spray it evenly and carefully. Do not spray on rainy or cloudy days. Fertilizer can be applied a few days after watering, and the fertilizer should be evenly spread around the plant 20-25 cm away from the stem.

Principles of rose top dressing

If the nutrient supply in early spring is insufficient and the buds grow poorly, such as blind buds and branches, it will affect the amount of flowers in the later stage of the rose. Most of us grow potted roses, and the nutrients in the potting soil are limited, so fertilizing is also a very important step in caring for roses in early spring.

Dosage of topdressing for rose

Apply solid fertilizer before the rose blooms. It is recommended to use the Meroke stick-shaped slow-release fertilizer, which is more convenient. At other times, except the winter dormancy period, spray liquid fertilizer once every two months. Fertilization requires frequent application of thin fertilizers. Chemical fertilizers only need to be applied according to the dosage indicated on the package. An appropriate amount of organic base fertilizer should be added to the potting soil.

Matters Needing Attention in Topdressing Rose

1. When fertilizing roses, be careful not to use high-concentration fertilizers, and the amount of fertilizer applied each time should not be too large to avoid fertilizer damage.

2. When the plant is in poor growth condition, do not over-fertilize. When the temperature is high in summer and low in winter, it will hibernate. At this time, be careful not to fertilize. Let the plant rest well. If the fertilizer concentration is not well controlled, it is possible to burn it to death.
