How to prune eggplant branches and leaves

Eggplant pruning is generally done in mid-to-late July, when the branches of the eggplants bloom and wither, making them perfect for pruning.

Withered branches on the eggplant will hinder the production of other branches, so they should be cut off directly. If the branches grow very densely, some of them need to be properly pruned, because excessive density will affect the growth of the eggplant and cause the fruit to grow very small.

When pruning, mainly cut the thick branches. Especially thin and tender branches do not need to be pruned. Thick branches often have more nutrients, allowing the surrounding areas to continue to sprout and produce some branches. Branches that are infested by diseases and insects also need to be pruned.

Eggplant Pruning Tips

1. Different varieties of eggplant have different growth abilities. For slow-growing eggplants, be careful when pruning the branches. Do not prune them until the branches and leaves are too dense. If there are not many branches and leaves, you can prune them in small amounts or not at all. This way, the eggplant can grow well.

2. Generally in the early stage, eggplant is in the growth stage and needs branches and leaves to absorb light to grow. Do not prune during this period. In the later stage, the growth of branches and leaves enters a slow period, and it is recommended not to prune. Generally, in the middle stage when the branches and leaves are growing vigorously, cut off the excess branches and leaves, which can provide enough nutrients to the fruit and they will grow more vigorously.

Eggplant pruning grows fast

As the eggplant grows, old branches and diseased branches will continue to appear. If you find these useless branches, you should trim them in time to ensure that the eggplant is covered with vigorous branches and leaves.

Eggplant pruning flowering

Generally, when pruning the branches and leaves of eggplant, you start from the main root, cut off the surrounding side branches, and then perform fine pruning, cutting off the leaves that are damaged by pathogens, and cutting off the aging branches, leaving some vigorously growing branches and leaves.

Eggplant pruning results in more

If new branches appear on the eggplant, then the fruits on the plant should be picked off, and the parts above the eggplant should be retracted, leaving only one or two strong branches, so that all the nutrients can be supplied to them, allowing the plant to grow earlier and bear delicious fruits.

Eggplant pruning precautions

When pruning, be sure not to cut close to the main stem. You need to retain some side branches so that it can produce more side branches, thereby increasing the yield. When pruning, cut at an angle to facilitate the healing of the eggplant's wounds.
