How to grow orchids in spring

How to grow orchids in spring

Watering method

It is not necessary to water frequently in early spring, just keep it moist.

When watering, stop when water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

Pay attention to moisture control, not too cold, just close to room temperature.

Light and temperature control

The sunlight intensity in early spring is just right, allowing orchids to receive light throughout the day. If there are continuous rainy days, supplementary light should be provided in time.

Spring is a good time for orchids to resume growth, and the temperature and humidity must be kept up at this time. Control the temperature between 20~26℃ during the day and 8~12℃ at night. If the temperature is lower, you can cover it with plastic film to increase the temperature.

Spring is relatively dry, so be sure to control the relative humidity of the environment between 65% and 80%, and water frequently to increase humidity.

Fertilization method

Don't rush to fertilize orchids in early spring, wait until the orchids adapt to the environment. Fertilizer can be applied when the temperature is stable at 18~20℃. Choose nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and apply 3~4 times a month.

At the same time, spring is also a high incidence season for diseases and insect pests, so pesticides should also be used 2 to 3 times a month.

Pest control

Orchids are more likely to be attacked by diseases in spring, the most common of which are anthracnose, black spot, and stem rot. Prevention should be taken as early as possible, especially on rainy days, pesticides should be sprayed in time to prevent bacteria from breeding in a humid environment.

Spring bud thinning

After a winter of dormancy, the flower buds begin to grow faster. Before the flowers bloom, unhealthy and small buds should be cut off appropriately according to the growth strength of the orchid. Generally, leave 2-3 flower buds in a full pot for spring orchids, and only one flower bud is needed for cymbidium orchids.
