How and when to plant Nepeta

Nepeta planting time and month

Nepeta can be directly sown or cultivated. Because Nepeta seeds contain gum, water cannot be used for sowing. The most suitable sowing period is March-April. For seedlings cultivated in March and April, the planting time should be in early May. Depending on the density of the seedlings, high-density seedlings can be harvested and put on the market.

Planting Nepeta in Spring

Plant Nepeta in spring, sow around "Qingming Festival" and harvest around "Autumnal Equinox". The growth cycle is about 150 days. The plant grows tall and strong, with many branches. The yield of Nepeta is high, but the yield of Nepeta spike is low. If the purpose is to harvest Nepeta spike, the sowing time should not be too early.

Nepeta japonica

Plant Nepeta in the summer, between Grain in Ear and Summer Solstice, and sow it in wheat stubble fields. Harvest it after Cold Dew. The growing period is 4 months. The whole grass is short, with few side branches, many Nepeta spikes, and good quality.

Nepeta cultivation method

Generally, the first harvest of hyssop can be done one month after sowing. When picking, you can only pick the tender tips. New tender tips will grow after a few days of picking. In this way, you can pick and eat them continuously until you find that the growing tender tips show signs of flowering. Then you can pull them out and replant them for the next season.

1. Choose high-quality whole-grain Nepeta seeds. It is best to choose a place with complete irrigation and drainage functions, which is also beneficial to the growth of the plant.

2. Careful cultivation, reasonable fertilization and watering. If the weather is dry and the soil lacks moisture before sowing, you can spray it in advance to keep the soil at a certain humidity, which is conducive to the rooting and germination of Nepeta.

3. Sowing depth: Because the seeds of Nepeta are very small, it is best to spread them manually in a small house, and the sowing depth should be kept at about 2-3 cm.

4. Pay close attention to the germination rate of Nepeta a few days after planting. If the germination rate drops, it needs to be replanted manually.

5. Field management: After the nepeta seedlings have fully grown, remove the grass on the seedlings in time to reduce nutrient loss and avoid affecting the growth of nepeta.
