When is the best time to sow Nepeta

Nepeta sowing time

Schizonepeta, also known as fragrant shepherd's purse, shepherd's purse, four-angled stem wormwood, and false perilla, is a plant of the Lamiaceae family and the genus Nepeta. It has high medicinal value. It can suppress phlegm, dispel wind, and cool blood. It can treat influenza, as well as dizziness and vomiting symptoms.

Nepeta likes a warm environment. The best time to sow it is in April in spring, when the temperature is stable, not too hot or too cold, and the seed germination rate is the highest and it grows best.

Nepeta sowing method

1. Before sowing Nepeta, the first thing to do is to screen the seeds, remove the seeds with impurities and damaged seeds, then soak them in water for 12-24 hours, and then place them in a well-ventilated environment. This can accelerate the internal metabolism of the seeds, enhance vitality, and increase the germination rate.

2. After sowing, cover the soil with 1-2 cm thickness, tamp it down with one foot, then use an iron rake to level the ground. Also check whether the seeds are close to the soil before watering. Especially after sowing, keep the soil moist, which is conducive to the growth of seedlings.

3. When the Nepeta seedlings are 6-10 cm tall, those that are too dense or some that are weak or small can be removed. It is best to transplant them on a cloudy day, not at noon when the light is too strong. When transplanting the seedlings, bring as much of the original soil as possible. Finally, water them thoroughly after transplanting to facilitate the survival of the seedlings.

Key points for growing Nepeta

1. Soil requirements: Nepeta is not very demanding on the soil and can be planted in general soil. However, in order to increase the yield, it is best to plant it in a plot with loose soil, abundant nutrients and convenient drainage and irrigation.

2. Suitable temperature: Schizonepeta prefers a warm environment and is not cold-resistant. It can tolerate temperatures as low as 0 degrees during the seedling stage, but will be frostbitten at minus 2 degrees. During the growth period, the temperature at night cannot be lower than 14 degrees, and the temperature during the day cannot be lower than 21 degrees.

3. Light conditions: Nepeta is a shade-loving plant, but it still needs sufficient light during its growth period. However, the plant cannot tolerate strong light, so it needs to be shaded in the summer. It is best to use scattered light, which is good for the growth of Nepeta.

Nepeta flowering time

Nepeta is generally propagated by sowing. It is sown in April, grows for 3 or 4 months, blooms in July-September, and bears fruit in September-October.
