The growing environment and local conditions of bracken

Bracken growth environment and conditions

Bracken prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight. It is generally distributed on the sunny slopes of mountains and on the edges of forests where there is plenty of sunlight. Its altitude is between 200 and 830 meters. In my country, it mainly grows in the area north of the Yangtze River Basin. It is distributed in tropical and temperate regions, and its distribution range in China is also very wide.

Bracken growing conditions

Bracken prefers sunny places in shallow mountain areas. Generally, the parts to be picked are the young and tender leaf buds that have not unfolded and the tender upper part of the stem. The plant is about 60 cm tall. It is best to pick it in spring when the tender leaves have just grown out and are still curled and not unfolded.

Fern growth temperature

Ferns have a strong adaptability to temperature and are resistant to both high and low temperatures. They can still grow when the summer temperature exceeds 32 degrees. In an environment of minus 35 degrees, the rhizomes can safely overwinter. When the ground temperature is 12 degrees and the air temperature is 15 degrees, the tender stems and leaves begin to grow rapidly.

Fern planting time and method

Bracken is a seasonal vegetable. Strictly speaking, bracken can be planted in all seasons, but it still depends on the local environment and climate. Generally speaking, the best time to plant bracken is March and April and September and October each year, that is, spring and autumn.

Those planted in spring are usually harvested in June and July after watering once, while ferns planted in autumn are harvested in November and December, and can be harvested again in June and July. Some vegetable farmers say that ferns can be harvested for 10-20 years.

There are two main ways to cultivate fern. One is to collect fern seeds, sow them in loose soil, and then transplant them. The other is to use the newly grown fern seedlings, move them out with the roots, and then plant them at a certain distance.
