Lavender was originally distributed along the Mediterranean coast, throughout Europe and the Oceania archipelago, and was later introduced to the United Kingdom and Yugoslavia. Its flowers are beautiful and elegant. It is a perennial cold-resistant flower distributed along the Ili River at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. The Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang is an area where it is planted more frequently.

Lavender Growing Conditions

Lavender is suitable for planting in soil that is deep, loose, fertile, well-ventilated and rich in silicon and calcium. It should not be planted in acidic or alkaline soils, or in soils with heavy clay, poor drainage or high groundwater levels. Sufficient light must be provided during the growth period. If the maintenance environment is dark and humid, it will develop poorly and age quickly.

Lavender growing temperature

Lavender has a strong adaptability to temperature and can tolerate high temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius in summer. In the Huanglong area of ​​Shaanxi, it can tolerate temperatures as low as minus 21 degrees Celsius. In Xinjiang, it can withstand temperatures as low as minus 37 degrees Celsius after being buried in the soil and covered with snow, and the seedlings can withstand temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Lavender growth process

Lavender grows slowly in the early stages after planting. After the temperature rises in spring, lavender enters the greening period in mid-April, the budding period in May, and the peak flowering period in late June.

Lavender planting time and method

1. Lavender seeds are small and suitable for seedling cultivation and transplanting. They are usually sown in spring. In warm areas, they can be planted in March-June and September-November, and in cold areas, they can be sown in April-June. If they are maintained in a greenhouse, they can be sown all year round. The suitable germination temperature is between 18-24 degrees, and it can germinate in 14 to 21 days.

2. Before sowing lavender seeds, soak them in water for 12 hours, level the land in advance, and water them thoroughly. After sowing, cover them with a layer of 0.2 cm fine soil, cover them with grass or plastic film to retain moisture, provide a temperature of 15-25°C, keep the soil moist, and the seedlings will emerge in about 10 days.
