What are the cultivation methods and precautions of pocket leaves

Pocket Leaf Introduction

The pocket leaf, also known as the pocket coconut, is also called the pocket palm, pocket sunflower, and dwarf palm. It is a plant of the genus Miniature Coconut in the palm family. Common methods of reproduction include sowing propagation, division propagation, and aerial layering propagation.

Pocket leaf cultivation method

The pocket leaf likes a warm growing environment. Generally speaking, the temperature is best between 20-30 degrees. It is a very shade-tolerant, even shade-loving foliage plant. It is suitable to be placed in a place with bright scattered light. It cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, otherwise the leaf tips will become scorched. The substrate is preferably well-drained, moist, fertile loam, which can be mixed with leaf mold, peat soil, river sand, and base fertilizer.

Watering method

The pocket leaf does not require much water. Do not water it too much. Water it when it is dry. Generally, water it once every 3-5 days to meet the growth needs of the plant. Remember not to allow water to accumulate, otherwise it will cause root rot.

Fertilization method

The pocket-leaf plant does not have high requirements for fertilizer, so you can apply thin fertilizer frequently. Generally, apply liquid fertilizer 1-2 times a month during the growing season. It is best to stop fertilizing in late autumn and winter.

Pruning methods

The pocket leaves often turn yellow and need to be removed in time. In addition, diseased, insect-infested, weak, and old branches and leaves also need to be pruned away. This will concentrate nutrients on the strong branches and improve the overall ornamental value.

Precautions for cultivating pocket leaves

The suitable growth temperature for pocket leaves is between 20-30 degrees. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 10 degrees. It likes shady environment and needs to be shaded in summer. Liquid fertilizer should be applied every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing period. Water it in the morning and evening in summer and control the amount of watering in winter.
