Cultivation method of Daphne koreana

Daphne koreana, also known as sleeping fragrance, Penglai purple, windy tree, hairy daphne, thousand-mile fragrance, and mountain dream flower, is a plant of the genus Daphne in the Thymelaeaceae family. Its main methods of reproduction are cutting propagation, pressing propagation, sowing propagation, and grafting propagation.

Daphne prefers a warm environment and is suitable for growing in a semi-shaded environment. It cannot tolerate direct sunlight. It needs shade, shelter from rain and strong winds in summer. It is suitable for indoor maintenance in winter, maintaining a room temperature above 8 degrees. Pay attention to cleaning the leaves and keep the soil in the pot not too dry or too wet.

Daphne koreana likes loose, fertile, well-drained acidic soil, with a pH value of 6 to 6.5 being best. If you want to prepare it yourself, you can mix mountain mud or garden soil, peat soil, leaf mold, pine needle soil and an appropriate amount of coal ash, rice husk ash, urban garbage, etc. to make nutrient soil. For ground planting, choose semi-shaded and semi-sunny land with deep topsoil and moist soil.

Watering method

After the flowering period of Daphne koreana, new branches and leaves begin to sprout and grow. At this time, the soil in the pot should be kept moist. In summer, when the temperature is above 30 degrees, the plant goes into dormancy. It is better to water dry than wet, and water less and spray more. Autumn is the bud formation period. The principle of watering is to water thoroughly when the soil is dry. It will bloom in winter. Generally, watering once a week is sufficient, but the water temperature should be close to room temperature.

Fertilization method

When planting Daphne koreana, apply sufficient base fertilizer. It is better to use horse hoof slices as the base, and avoid applying human feces and urine. Usually, apply dilute alum fertilizer water. Apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during the flowering period, and mainly apply nitrogen fertilizer after flowering to ensure the needs of nutritional growth. Fertilization is prohibited in the hot summer season.

Pruning methods

In order to improve the ornamental value of Daphne korea, you need to be prepared for pruning. You can cut off dry branches, diseased branches, overcrowded branches, and overgrown branches to reduce nutrient loss, making the plant beautiful in shape and more ornamental.

Precautions for cultivation of Daphne koreana

During the maintenance period, Daphne koreana is prone to heart rot and root rot, which is mainly caused by improper maintenance. It likes warm, semi-shaded environment. Its roots are fleshy and cannot tolerate waterlogging environment. It is prone to mosaic disease in high temperature and high humidity seasons. You can spray Bordeaux liquid 2-3 times in advance for prevention and control. It is best to keep the potting soil semi-moist during the growth period.
