How to grow small banyan tree

The small banyan tree is a plant of the mulberry family. It is mostly propagated by cuttings and layering. The plant prefers plenty of sunlight, a warm and humid climate. It is not cold-resistant, has strong adaptability, and likes loose, fertile, acidic soil.

Small banyan trees can be cultivated in loose, permeable leaf mold. They should be placed in a ventilated and well-lit place to ensure a certain amount of space humidity. The growth temperature should not have a large temperature difference between day and night, otherwise they will easily fall off and die.

Watering method

Watering generally needs to be carried out according to the dryness and wetness of the soil of the small banyan tree. Maintain the moisture of the soil until water seeps out of the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. Do not water halfway. After watering once, the soil surface turns white, and the surface soil becomes dry. Do not water it a second time.

Fertilization method

The small banyan tree does not like fertilizer, so apply more than 10 grains of compound fertilizer every month. When fertilizing, bury the fertilizer in the soil along the edge of the flowerpot. Water immediately after fertilizing. Fertilizer should be mainly compound fertilizer.

Pruning methods

During the cultivation process of small banyan trees, they need to be properly pinched to promote the germination of axillary buds, grow more branches, expand the crown, and at the same time inhibit the excessive growth of branches, remove unnecessary buds, and form an ideal tree shape.

Things to note when growing small banyan trees

Small banyan trees should not be repotted frequently to avoid root damage and rot. Generally speaking, repotting should be done every 3 to 4 years, preferably in late spring, April to May, and not in autumn or winter. At the same time, part of the old soil should be removed and old and rotten roots should be cut off.
