What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Dracaena?

How to grow dragon blood tree

Dracaena prefers a hot, humid and sunny environment. It is not cold-resistant and the winter temperature needs to be above 5 degrees. It is best to provide a maintenance temperature of 15 degrees. It is suitable for planting in loose, well-drained, humus-rich soil.

Watering method

During the growth period of the Dracaena, water it every 3-5 days to keep the soil slightly moist. In the summer when the temperature is high, spray water in the morning and evening to protect the beautiful and bright color of the leaves. In winter, the plant enters a dormant period, at this time, control watering and keep the soil slightly dry and moist.

Fertilization method

If the Dracaena is grown in water, you can apply nutrient solution. If the number of plants planted is small, you do not need to prepare a special nutrient solution, but can use the "Hongmei" or "Jinyue" brand nutrient solution sold on the market, and be sure to dilute it with water.

Pruning methods

In spring, you can trim the weak, diseased and insect-infested branches of the Dracaena to keep the crown loose and well-ventilated and light-permeable. During the growth period, you can pinch the top of the branches several times, cut back the overgrown branches, promote the sprouting of side branches, and trim the unsightly branches and leaves to increase the ornamental value of the plant.

Cutting propagation

Before grafting the Dracaena, choose strong branches that have grown for more than two years, with a length of 10-20 cm, with leaves or without leaves. Trim the lower leaves and soak the cut in clean water to wash off the overflowing juice. Place it in a cool and ventilated place and prepare a very small earthenware flowerpot. The substrate can be prepared with vermiculite, perlite or plain sandy soil. After potting, carry out cuttings.

Precautions for cultivating dragon blood tree

It is best to place the Dracaena on a sunny balcony for indoor maintenance. However, when the sunlight is too strong in summer, the flowerpot should be moved indoors and shade measures should be taken at noon. The suitable growth temperature for it is between 20-28 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 32 degrees in summer and is lower than 15 degrees in winter, it will enter a dormant state. Watering should be controlled and fertilization should be stopped.
