How to propagate daffodils

When propagating daffodils, generally division propagation, cutting propagation and sowing propagation are used. The survival rate of these three propagation methods is relatively high, but the most commonly used method is cutting propagation, which is relatively simple and quick.

Daffodils are not propagated by seeds, but are generally planted through rhizomes, which are similar to garlic cloves.

The natural way for daffodils to reproduce is by division, which is the most common and commonly used method of reproduction.

Daffodil breeding time

Daffodils are generally propagated in spring, when their survival rate is relatively high, and they can be propagated by division. As long as the temperature is suitable, their growth rate will be relatively fast.

How to propagate daffodils

Daffodil division propagation

When propagating daffodils by division, it can be done in spring and autumn. You need to take them out, and then wait for the side balls to be separated before transplanting them.

Narcissus cutting propagation

To propagate daffodils by cuttings, you need to first place the bulbs in an environment of 4-10 degrees Celsius for about 4-8 hours, cut off the upper end of the scales, maintain a suitable temperature, and new bulbs will grow after about a few months.

Daffodil seed propagation

When propagating daffodils by sowing, you need to pick out the small white buds from the detached broken scales, prepare the seedbed, and sow and plant them in autumn.

Hydroponic daffodil propagation

When hydroponically cultivating daffodils, the bulbs need to be placed at a low temperature of 4-10℃. After a few weeks, cut the stem disk into small pieces so that each piece has two scales. Cut off the top of the scales and leave 2 cm as breeding material. Then use a plastic bag to hold sandy soil containing water and put it into the bag. After 2-3 months, small bulbs will grow.

Precautions for propagating daffodils

Daffodils need sufficient light during their growth process and should be placed in a well-ventilated place. Appropriate light is conducive to the opening of flowers. When they are blooming, it is best to breed them in a relatively cool place indoors to avoid direct sunlight.
