Geranium pests and diseases and their control methods

Geranium Diseases: Bacterial Leaf Spot

disease

In the early stages of geranium leaf spot disease, many small water-like spots will appear on the back of the leaves. As the spots expand and connect together, the veins and petioles gradually turn brown, and most of the leaves die. Cuttings are also easily attacked by leaf spot disease. When infected, the branches find it difficult to take root and begin to rot from the bottom up. The leaves gradually wither and die.

Prevention and treatment methods

Strengthen daily maintenance, ventilate and light frequently, and avoid excessive humidity. Water in moderation and try not to spray water directly on the plants to avoid splashing.

Do not choose plants infected with leaf spot disease for daily cuttings, and do not choose their soil. Most of the pathogens live in the soil and can cause infection of the cuttings.

If diseased plants are found, remove them immediately. If the symptoms are mild, you can spray Bordeaux mixture once every 10-15 days .

Geranium Pests: Nematodes

disease

Nematodes are a common pest of geraniums. When the temperature is between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius and the humidity is around 40% , it is the most suitable time for nematodes to invade the roots of geraniums. Nematodes mainly live in the soil and mainly harm the roots, causing rhizomes to rot.

Prevention and treatment methods

Once nematodes appear, it is not easy to eradicate them, so prevention must be carried out in advance. When watering and fertilizing, you can use 3% furan with 10 times the amount of water for irrigation, which can effectively prevent the growth of larvae.

In addition, if you find nematodes, you can cover the surface of the potting soil with a layer of fine sand mixed with pesticides. The nematodes will quickly drill out of the potting soil due to lack of air in the soil, and then you can remove the sand and the worm bodies together. Do this 2 to 3 times in a row and the disease can basically be cured.
