Can peony seeds be planted?

Peony seeds can be planted, but before planting you need to choose plump, disease-free peony seeds so that they will grow better in the later stage. Planting peony seeds can grow into peony plants, and if well maintained, they can bear fruit.

Peony seed sowing

Peonies can be sown in spring and summer, and can be planted from March to August every year. The time between sowing and collecting seeds cannot be too far apart. If seeds are collected in August, they need to be sown before September. If you want to increase the germination rate, you must choose new seeds and soak them in advance for germination. In addition, the seeds cannot be planted too deep.

How to plant peony seeds

Before planting peony seeds, you need to choose suitable soil. It is best to plant them in sunny, dry, deep, well-drained sandy loam. Deeply plow the soil in advance and apply organic fertilizer. Do not plant them in saline-alkali land, clay land or land with high groundwater level.

Put the peony seeds in 1% gibberellin for 48 hours, or in a low temperature environment of 5 degrees, to break the dormancy of the hypocotyl. They will germinate in the spring of the following year after sowing. Dig up the seedlings two years after sowing, pull out the weak, diseased and disabled plants, and plant them with a spacing of 30 cm between rows and plants.

Weeds grow very fast in spring and need to be weeded and tilled several times, but the roots must not be damaged. Manure or manure can be applied when transplanting. Fertilizer also needs to be applied in time during the growth period to meet its nutrient needs. Generally, 6,000 kg of human manure and 1,500 kg of rapeseed cake fertilizer are applied per hectare. Be careful not to drip on the leaves.

In spring, the buds of peonies should be picked off as soon as they appear. In addition, the trunk should be fixed, soil buds should be removed, and buds should be picked to reduce nutrient loss, promote the plant's luxuriant branches and leaves, and also help increase fruit yield and make it a high yield.
