How to propagate tea trees and what to pay attention to

Tea tree propagation method

The main ways of propagating tea trees are seed propagation and cutting propagation. The natural way for plants to reproduce offspring is seed propagation. Generally speaking, cutting propagation is the fastest for tea trees.

Tea tree breeding time

Generally speaking, the best time for tea tree reproduction is in late spring and early summer. This is when the plants grow more vigorously and the survival rate of reproduction is relatively high.

Tea tree propagation method

Tea tree cutting propagation

Choose tea tree branches grown that year. The branches need to be strong, disease-free and undamaged. Cut them to a length of about 10 cm, remove the leaves at the bottom, and then cut off half of the top leaves to reduce water consumption. Then wait for the wound to dry before inserting the cuttings into the soil, compact the soil, and water to keep it moist.

Tea leaf cuttings

Break off a complete shaped leaf from the tea branch, preferably with some wood and buds on it, and quickly insert the lower 1/4-1/3 of the leaf into the substrate, and then maintain it properly.

Tea tree breeding precautions

When propagating tea trees by cuttings, after obtaining the cuttings, they need to be soaked in rooting powder solution for a few minutes to increase the rooting speed of the cuttings. After cuttings, they need to be placed in a cool place for maintenance, avoiding direct sunlight. If they are maintained in a well-lit place for a long time, the moisture in the cuttings will be consumed through the leaves.
