How to propagate lavenderThe main methods of lavender reproduction include sowing, cuttings, layering, and root division. It can be propagated by seeds, but the germination rate is related to the freshness and fullness of the seeds. In production, the main method used is cuttings, which reproduces quickly. Lavender breeding timeIt is generally best to propagate lavender by cuttings in spring, when the climate is warmer and the air humidity is higher. The cuttings will sprout and take root soon after propagation, and the survival rate is high. Lavender propagation methodLavender division propagationLavender can be divided in spring and autumn. Choose strong 3-4 year old plants and cut the old roots with sharp scissors in spring. Each branch needs to have 2-3 buds. Lavender cutting propagationThe medium for lavender cuttings can be prepared by mixing coarse sand and peat moss. Choose healthy and good quality plants, cut off the top buds of annual semi-lignified branches with short and thick internodes, with a length of 8 to 10 cm. The incision of the cuttings should be close to the stem node, and the incision should be smooth. Remove the leaves at the bottom, soak them in water for 2 hours and then plant them in the soil. They will take root in about half a month. You can also choose one-year-old branches with a length of 8-10 cm. After planting, keep the substrate moist and provide conditions of 20-24℃. It will take about 40 days for rooting to take place. Do not use the terminal buds with inflorescences for cuttings. Such branches are already aged and poor rooting will affect future growth. Lavender seed propagationLavender is generally sown in spring, from March to June or from September to November in the south, and from April to June in the north. The temperature should be between 15 and 25 degrees. Its seeds are very small and suitable for seedling cultivation and transplanting. Keep the seedbed moist and it will germinate in about 10 days. Pay attention to spraying water during the seedling stage, and thin out the seedlings appropriately. They can be transplanted when the seedling height is about 10 cm. Lavender breeding precautionsAfter the lavender branches are cut and grafted, the substrate needs to be kept moist and water needs to be replenished in time. If the temperature is low, a layer of film can be covered to keep the branches warm. Reduce exposure to light before rooting and maintain in a well-ventilated environment so that rooting can take place quickly. |
