How to propagate rosemary and what to pay attention to

How to propagate rosemary

The main ways of propagating rosemary are seed propagation and cutting propagation, so its seeds can be propagated, and its natural reproduction method is also through seeds, but cutting propagation is the fastest. If it is propagated hydroponically, you can soak it in rooting powder and then carry out hydroponics.

Rosemary breeding time

Rosemary can be propagated by cuttings all year round, but the survival rate is highest in April-May in spring and November-December in autumn and winter, because the plants grow vigorously and the climate is suitable at this time, so the cuttings will take root quickly and have a high survival rate.

How to propagate rosemary

Rosemary cutting propagation

When propagating rosemary by cuttings, choose some disease-free branches as cuttings, keep 3-4 true leaves about ten centimeters from the top, keep the soil sufficiently moist, and then insert the branches into the medium. Basically, it will take about a month for them to take root.

Rosemary seed propagation

The seedbed for sowing should be arranged into a flat ridge, and the soil should be broken up and raked flat, then watered enough and sufficient fermented base fertilizer should be applied. Then, the seeds should be mixed with fine dry soil and sown on the seedbed. A little water should be applied to ensure close contact between the seeds and the soil.

Rosemary propagation precautions

The natural germination rate of rosemary is very low, usually only one-fifth or even lower. Rosemary grows very slowly and has a very vigorous growth period. If you plant it in spring, you will find that the plant is not much larger in autumn than when you planted it. You should wait at least 2 years for the vigorous growth period.
