How to grow Phalaenopsis and key points to pay attention to

Phalaenopsis Growing Conditions

Phalaenopsis prefers a high temperature, humid and well-ventilated environment. The night temperature during the growing period should be kept above 18 degrees, and the daytime temperature should be around 26 degrees. It likes an environment with slightly higher air humidity, which should be kept above 70% during the day. It is not tolerant of waterlogging, so watering should be appropriate and not excessive.

How to grow Phalaenopsis

1. The flowerpot should be suitable. After one year of growing Phalaenopsis, you should replace it with a pot that is larger than the original one to facilitate the expansion of its roots.

2. Suitable environment. Phalaenopsis has high requirements for temperature. The most suitable temperature for its growth is 15-25 degrees. When the temperature is too high in summer, it will go dormant. In winter, if there is no heating in the home, it will grow slowly when the temperature is below 10 degrees.

3. The fertilizer should be appropriate. Phalaenopsis itself is not tolerant to fertilizer, so when we apply fertilizer, it is best to use some special fertilizer for orchids, and apply it in small amounts frequently.

Phalaenopsis watering

Phalaenopsis should be watered in moderation, and no water should accumulate. If the air is dry, you can use a spray bottle to spray water to maintain the humidity of the environment. Be careful not to allow water to accumulate in the heart of the orchid leaves. The temperature is lower in winter, and the plant consumes less water, so try to water as little as possible.

Phalaenopsis fertilization

The growth of Phalaenopsis requires the support of fertilizer. Just apply a small amount of fertilizer in spring, stop fertilizing during flowering, and apply liquid fertilizer once a week during the summer growth period. In autumn, the growth of the plant slows down, so less fertilizer can be applied.

Phalaenopsis pest control

Phalaenopsis often has pests, mainly scale insects and red spider mites. When the number of scale insects is small, they can be removed manually. When the number is large, you can spray it with dichlorvos emulsion, and red spider mites can be sprayed with dicofol.

How to grow Phalaenopsis at home

For the maintenance of Phalaenopsis potted plants, choose breathable, slightly acidic soil containing humus, with a temperature of 18-28 degrees. The temperature in winter needs to be above 10 degrees. Water it every day in spring and summer, and once every 2-5 days in autumn and winter. No water accumulation is allowed. Shading is needed in summer, and more sunlight is allowed in other seasons. Apply special fertilizer for Phalaenopsis during the growth period, and stop fertilizing during the flowering period in winter.

Phalaenopsis maintenance precautions

Phalaenopsis is not resistant to high temperatures and needs to be moved to a cool, well-ventilated place in summer to help it survive the hot summer. If the temperature is below 10 degrees in winter, it will suffer from frost damage. At this time, it can be moved to a sunny windowsill or placed near heating equipment to increase the temperature.
