Environmental conditions and requirements for the growth of asparagus fern

The asparagus fern plant is native to eastern South Africa and is widely distributed in central, northwestern my country and the Yangtze River basin. It prefers a warm, humid, semi-shady and ventilated climate, and the plant has very poor drought tolerance.

Asparagus fern growth temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for asparagus fern is 15-25℃. Temperatures that are too high or too low will affect the growth of the plant. If cultivated indoors, the temperature should be kept at 12-18℃. The minimum safe temperature for wintering is 5℃.

Asparagus fern growth humidity

Asparagus fern prefers a humid growing environment and has high requirements for air humidity. It usually needs to be watered every 3-4 days. The plant has very poor drought tolerance, and long-term water shortage will lead to yellowing and falling leaves.

Asparagus fern growing soil

The asparagus fern plant likes breathable, deep, humus-rich soil, which can be prepared with leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand. Note that the potting soil for the plant should be replaced every two years.

Asparagus fern growth cycle and process

Winter and spring are the peak growth periods for asparagus fern. The plant grows very fast. The newly grown branches are dull in color. After growing to a certain height, new leaves will slowly grow. Later, there will be more and more leaves and the color will become darker and darker. During this period, it must be given appropriate light and water.
