How to cultivate lotus

Bowl lotus growth conditions

Bowl lotus likes an environment with plenty of sunlight. The suitable growth temperature is 20~30℃. Growth will stagnate when the temperature is below 15℃. It likes moisture and is afraid of dryness. It likes relatively stable still water. It is best to have organic, fertile, slightly acidic clay. The appropriate pH value is 6.5.

How to grow lotus

It is best to plant bowl lotus from July to September. Prepare suitable potting soil and choose a pot with a large diameter and no holes in the bottom. The potting soil can generally be fertile river mud and garden soil. Treat the seeds before planting and add appropriate water after planting. The water height must not exceed the small buds.

Watering the lotus

Bowl lotus is an aquatic plant and must be provided with sufficient water. As the plant grows, water must be added slowly and the water level must be checked carefully. If the water evaporates too quickly, water must be added immediately. Water should be poured into the container, and there is no need to water the roots and leaves.

Fertilizing lotus

Before fertilizing the bowl lotus, observe whether the leaves become thinner. If so, you can apply fertilizer immediately. It is usually done in the afternoon on a sunny day. Do not fertilize before it rains. The fertilizer requirement is high in summer, and no fertilizer is needed in winter. Supplement nitrogen fertilizer when the plant is small, supplement phosphorus fertilizer when the flower buds are small, and supplement potassium fertilizer when the stems are thin.

Bowl lotus pest control

Common diseases and pests of bowl lotus are leaf spot and spot disease, which usually occur on lotus leaves from June to September, and are particularly severe in rainy seasons. You can usually spray the lotus leaves with wet-type Duo Miao Ling powder in the morning and evening, or spray them with methyl thiophanate powder.

How to grow lotus at home

1. Potting soil: You can use fertile river pond mud to grow bowl lotus, and the cultivation container can also be slightly larger. If it is too small, there is too little nutrient soil and it cannot grow normally.

2. Sunlight: Bowl lotus should usually be placed in a well-lit place to make the potting soil warm so that it can grow faster. During the growth process, it must receive at least 6 hours of light. If there is insufficient light, its color will become darker and it may even fail to bloom.

3. Watering: When the bowl lotus is first cultivated, it does not need too much water. Too much water is not conducive to growth, and the roots will rot due to lack of air permeability. After the leaves grow slightly, add water, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and wither.

4. Fertilization: When growing bowl lotus, ensure that there is sufficient nutrients and apply appropriate topdressing. The amount of topdressing should be determined according to the size of the pot and the plant. However, it should be noted that if the amount of fertilizer is too large, the plant will not bloom, and in severe cases, it will die.

Bowl lotus maintenance precautions

When growing water lilies, as the leaves grow more and more densely, being too dense will affect normal growth. At this time, you can remove the leaves appropriately to help shape it and promote better growth.
