How to propagate Dracaena by cuttings?

Dracaena is an easy-to-care-for indoor plant that is loved by many families. Dracaena is mainly propagated by cuttings and layering. Cutting is a simple method with a high success rate, suitable for home operation. Let’s learn how to propagate Dracaena by cuttings.

1. Choose branches

Choose mature branches that are 3 to 5 years old for cuttings, which are easier to root and survive. Avoid using tender or underdeveloped branches.

2. Soil preparation

Soil selection is crucial for cuttings. You can use a mixture of two parts peat moss and one part river sand, or a combination of vermiculite and river sand. A mixture of peat moss and river sand does not need to be replaced after successful cuttings, while a combination of vermiculite and river sand may require soil replacement after rooting.

3. Cutting time

The best time for cuttings is from June to August, when the climate is suitable and conducive to rooting. Keep the cutting temperature between 22 and 28 degrees, which will help speed up the rooting process.

4. Light and moisture

During the cutting period, ensure shade and avoid direct sunlight to prevent the branches from drying out. Supplement moisture by misting the leaves daily to help root growth while avoiding overwatering.

5. Maintenance points

Maintenance in the first month is particularly critical. Keep the soil moist but do not overwater. When taking cuttings indoors, the moisture in the soil is not easy to evaporate, so just keep it moderately moist.

In general, when grafting Dracaena, choosing mature branches, suitable soil, the right time and appropriate maintenance methods can significantly improve the survival rate. With careful care, the dragon blood tree can take root smoothly and grow into a healthy plant.
