How to care for camellia to grow well

Camellia growing conditions

Camellia likes a semi-hidden environment and can tolerate shade, but is afraid of strong sunlight. Camellia likes fertile, loose, and well-drained acidic soil. It is not suitable for growing in alkaline soil. It likes a humid environment and is afraid of drought and waterlogging.

How to grow camellia

The temperature for growing camellia should be controlled at 18-25℃. In spring, autumn and winter, there is no need for shading. In summer, it needs to grow in a semi-shaded environment to ensure that the soil is not too dry or too wet. Some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be applied to the plants during the growing period.

Camellia watering

Camellia should be watered appropriately in spring, watered more in summer, and the leaves should be sprayed with water frequently. In autumn, more water can be given, and watering should be reduced in winter to prevent it from frostbite.

Fertilizing Camellia

After the camellia flowering period is over, nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied to it. From May to June, more phosphorus fertilizer needs to be used. Mixed fertilizer should be used in autumn, and the concentration should be lower in winter.

Camellia pest control

The main pests of camellia are red spider mites and leaf rollers. The former can be eliminated with dicofol and the latter can be eliminated with phoxim.

How to grow camellia at home

1. When caring for camellia at home, you should use flower soil that contains more humus and has enough gaps. Pay attention to controlling the growth temperature between 18-25℃, and usually keep it in a place with better light.

2. Water the camellia appropriately, avoid waterlogging and excessive dryness. Apply fertilizer every 10-15 days. Before flowering, apply some phosphorus fertilizer to increase the number of flowers.

Camellia maintenance precautions

During the maintenance process of camellia, the crown is formed relatively evenly, and no special pruning is usually required. It is only necessary to cut off dense branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, weak branches and shorten long branches. However, if a lot of flower buds grow during the flowering period, it will be detrimental to the growth of the plant, so it is necessary to pick the buds appropriately.
