How to transplant holly

How to transplant holly

1. Transplanting time

Holly transplanting is generally done during the dormant period, usually from October to December. Transplanting can also be done in spring, but it is easy to damage the roots and requires a longer period of time to acclimate the seedlings. In the Yangtze River Basin, transplanting can be done during the rainy season, when the roots will take root quickly and the survival rate will be higher. Do not transplant in summer, as this will cause great damage to the plant and make it difficult for it to survive.

2. Dig out the plants

Before preparing for transplanting, you need to do some simple pruning to reduce the consumption of water and nutrients. Water properly to keep the soil moist, which makes it easier to dig it out. Be careful when digging it out, and make sure the roots are covered with soil, otherwise it will be damaged and its survival will be affected.

3. Transplanting

Choose a suitable site for planting and dig a hole slightly deeper than the soil ball. Plant the holly in it, fill the soil in, compact it, and water it thoroughly. If you are transplanting a large area, you need to control the firmness of each plant to avoid them being too close and affecting light and ventilation.

4. Seedling maintenance

Depending on the time of transplanting, the maintenance methods during the seedling period are also different. If transplanting in autumn or winter, do not water too much. When transplanting in spring, give it sufficient light and water it regularly to keep the substrate moist. Transplanting during the rainy season is fine as long as there is enough rain, otherwise you need to water more.
