How to grow African violets in autumn

How to grow African violets in autumn

1. Sufficient water

African violets prefer humidity, so water must be replenished in time in autumn. Too dry can lead to more insect infestations, but too much water can also lead to bacterial growth. Therefore, providing sufficient water but not excessive water accumulation is what we need to do. However, in order to flush out the salt accumulated in the pot, you need to water it heavily once a month to flush it out.

2. Repotting

Repotting can be done around the Mid-Autumn Festival and should be done at least once a year. It is best to use finer peat soil. Also pay attention to the pot. If the original pot is still suitable, you don’t need to change it. If the original pot is too small, you need to replace it with a new one. The most important thing is to choose the right size. There are many materials to choose from, such as plastic basins or ceramic basins, which are more beautiful.

3. Suitable light

Generally speaking, providing diffuse light is enough to meet the growth needs of African violets, and the light should not be too strong. Therefore, when autumn just begins, the midday light needs to be avoided. Generally, the light before nine in the morning is more suitable for it and will not burn its leaves. However, by the end of autumn, you don't need to pay too much attention.

4. Prevention and control of diseases, pests and insect pests

Because of the heavy rain in early autumn, some bacterial diseases may appear, and mites are also likely to appear. Therefore, we must pay attention to using pesticides to prevent insects and eliminate bacteria in time.
