How to grow Desert Rose

How to grow Desert Rose

1. Soil

We need to give it suitable soil, which should be loose, breathable and well-drained calcareous sandy loam. During maintenance, we can use commercial granular soil, or peat plus slag, perlite and other particles for cultivation.

2. Light

It has very strong requirements for light during the growth process and needs to be maintained in a full-light environment. If it is grown in a place that is too shady, it is likely to grow too tall, affecting flowering.

3. Temperature

It does not have very strict requirements for temperature, but is very afraid of cold, and can only survive the winter normally if the temperature is above 10 degrees.

4. Water

The requirement is that it should be dry rather than wet. During the maintenance process, try to wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering it thoroughly. It should be kept on the dry side, which is more conducive to its growth.

5. Fertilizer

It is not very demanding on fertilizers and does not require fertile soil. We only need to repot it once every two to three years during maintenance. For young seedlings, it is recommended to repot them once a year, which is more conducive to their normal growth.

6. Pruning

During the maintenance process, we need to perform appropriate pruning, otherwise it will affect its ornamental value.

7. Pests and diseases

During the maintenance process, the most common diseases and pests are soft rot. Once it happens, we need to use clean scissors to cut off the affected area and sprinkle it with agents such as streptomycin powder or charcoal powder. After the wound dries up, we can then resume normal maintenance.
