When is the sunflower season? How to plant sunflowers?

1. What is the season for sunflowers?

Sunflower is an annual herb, and its flowering period varies depending on the variety. But it usually blooms in summer and autumn and is a summer flower. If sown in March-April, it will bloom in July-August and mature in August-September. There are two types of flowers on the disk: ligulate flowers and tubular flowers. There are 1-3 layers of ligulate flowers, borne on the edges of the disk, and they are asexual flowers. The tubular flowers are located inside the ligulate flowers and are bisexual flowers. The size and color of the flower disk vary depending on the variety, generally orange, light yellow and purple.

2. How to plant sunflowers

1. Planting time: Sunflowers are best planted in March and April. At this time, the temperature and humidity are suitable for planting, and the survival rate will be higher.

2. Planting site selection: The planting site can be selected where the land is flat, the fertility is medium, the irrigation is convenient, and the soil has low viscosity.

3. Temperature: The suitable temperature for sowing is between 18-25℃. Usually after the temperature rises to 20 degrees, the seeds will begin to germinate in about 5-7 days. When the local temperature is stable at above 2℃, the seeds begin to germinate, and they can germinate and take root at 4-5℃. When the ground temperature reaches 8-10℃, the seeds will germinate. During the entire growth process, sunflowers can grow normally as long as the temperature is not lower than 10℃.

4. Water and fertilizer: The requirements for water and fertilizer will vary at different growth stages. Between the seedling stage and the bud stage, the demand for water and fertilizer is low. The demand for water and fertilizer will increase significantly during the budding and flowering stages. The needs for water and fertilizer must be met in a timely manner, otherwise the yield will be seriously affected. The demand for water and fertilizer is also high during the maturity period, but not as high as before. The amount of watering and fertilization should be reduced appropriately.

5. Light: It needs sufficient sunlight, and its seedlings, leaves and flower disks have strong phototropism. Adequate sunlight can prevent excessive growth, promote vigorous growth of stems and leaves, and increase the fruit set rate.
