How to take cuttings of roses

How to take cuttings of roses

1. Branch selection

When choosing branches, you should be careful to select new branches of the year. They should be healthy enough and elastic when broken off. Cut off the branches that have not grown flower buds, cut the top flatter, and use a sharp tool to cut an oblique cut at the bottom. In addition, we need to remove all the extra leaves, leaving only the two small leaves on the top.

2. Cuttings

You can go to the market to buy some vermiculite, then put it in a plastic basket with holes, and then you can insert the branches into it. There should be a distance of 5-6cm between each branch and a depth of 3-5cm. Then water it thoroughly at once and place the plastic basket on the stone to make it easier to drain the water.

3. Maintenance after insertion

Place the inserted branches in a shaded area and only expose them to sunlight in the morning and evening. During the first five days, spray it with water several times until water drips from the holes in the plastic basin. After five days, you can reduce the frequency of watering. Adjusting the temperature to 15-28℃ is very beneficial to its recovery. Its incision will recover and roots will grow. If the temperature can be adjusted to 20-28℃, it will grow roots in about ten days. The lower the temperature, the longer it takes for roots to grow.

4. Fertilization

After its roots grow out, the two small leaves that were left behind will fall off and new buds will grow. At this time, you can put it under the light, and when the new leaves grow up, spray it with some potassium dihydrogen phosphate so that the roots will grow stronger. You should not rush to transplant it at this time. Wait until the roots turn brown, so that the chances of success will be greater.
