Why don't flowers and plants grow big?

Spring is the growth period for all things, but many flower lovers are worried: the weeds in my house are half a meter high and the flowers have not grown yet~

Some flower lovers also said, what’s the big deal, my flowers have mushrooms but no flowers!

Everyone knows that the elements of flower cultivation are nothing more than: light, water, soil, fertilizer, and flower pot size.

But different flowers have different needs. Today, Huahua will talk in detail about what to do if succulents, kalanchoe, and Clivia grow slowly.

Succulents grow slowly

Other people's succulents are growing in large pots, but why are the succulents we grow always small?

1. Variety issues

The variety is a hardware problem. For example, the lithops (butt flowers) and flower cages in the picture below are inherently difficult to grow.

Most succulents can grow normally, otherwise there will be the following problems

2. Change the pot in time

A flowerpot that is too small will limit the growth of succulents. If you feel that the succulents are a bit crowded, change the pot.

The picture below shows the plant before and after repotting. It quickly grew a lot bigger!

3. Pay attention to sun exposure

Except for Euphorbiaceae, Asclepiadaceae and Cactaceae, which are not afraid of sun exposure, we usually plant succulents of Crassulaceae, which need to be paid attention to sun exposure.

This is a diagram of succulents basking in the sun. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun!

Place it on the balcony in spring and autumn to dry in the sun, and place it indoors in summer and winter. If you want the flesh to change color, you can expose it to the sun for a little longer.

4. How much water to pour

Although it is easy to water succulents, problems will arise if there is a lack of water or too much water.

The picture above clearly shows that too much water was poured, and the succulents are about to be drowned!

It is recommended to use a drip kettle. During the spring and autumn growing season, water the roots of the succulents every 2 days, and the soil should be slightly moist.

In summer, succulents grow slowly or even go dormant, so reduce watering.

In winter, you can water less or not water the succulents when they are dormant.

5. Add fat and extra food?

Succulents do not require large amounts of fertilizer. Generally, adding some slow-release fertilizer when planting or repotting is enough. But the soil must be well-ventilated.

You can mix some egg shells, pebbles, and sand into the flower soil.

Or you can add expanded clay, sand, etc. to the bottom of the flower pot and the soil, which can make it breathable while keeping warm and moisturizing.

Kalanchoe grows slowly

Kalanchoe is very hard-working, but many flower lovers have planted it for 3 months, and spring is almost over, but it still hasn't grown. Don't worry, Huahua will give you the answer

1. Get more sun

Kalanchoe likes light, so place it on a sunny balcony window sill to get more sun exposure.

Be careful not to always bask on one side, turn it every half a day to bask evenly.

2. Control watering

Don’t be fooled by the fleshy and watery leaves of Kalanchoe. In fact, it does not need a lot of water and is a very drought-tolerant plant!

Don't water too much or too frequently. Water once every 3-5 days, or water when you see the soil in the pot is dry and white. Water until the soil color becomes darker.

3. Soil ventilation

Most Kalanchoe flowers grow slowly because the soil is not breathable enough. You can choose pine needles with good breathability and mix them into the flower soil (it is best to sprinkle some carbendazim to kill bacteria).

Clivia grows slowly

Generally, Clivia can grow 2-3 pairs of leaves every year, which is already very impressive.

Some flower lovers said, why don't my flowers grow and drop leaves?

Huahua will answer this question~

1. Check the flower roots first

Clivia never grows and even loses leaves. Check the roots first.

Some Clivia roots have dried up or even rotted away.

In this case, the Clivia is only in a state of false life and cannot be saved.

2. Winter and summer dormancy periods are important

Winter and summer are the bottlenecks in the growth process of Clivia

Pay attention to heat preservation in winter, move the Clivia into a warm room, and reduce watering

Many Clivia leaves wither in winter, so you can cut off the leaves and keep the flower stems

Summer is a painful period for Clivia. Avoid exposure to the sun and place it in a cool and ventilated room.

Don't water too much in summer, as it will easily rot the roots. Once the leaves fall and the plant becomes weak due to high temperatures, the roots should be dug out.

After disinfecting the scissors, cut off the branches, leaves and moldy roots, and then apply rooting powder to the roots.

Then replant it and it will come back to life

3. Fertilization requirements

Don’t be fooled by Clivia’s quiet appearance, it really likes flower fertilizer. Fertilizer suitable for growing Clivia can also be made at home!

In spring, you can add a handful of peanut shells and egg shells to the potting soil.

Used to supplement nitrogen to make Clivia grow faster

It is better to put a handful of oily nuts such as melon seeds and sesame seeds in the pot. Clivia likes oily fertilizers.

Melon seed shells, nut shells, and bone powder are also OK~

In autumn, we need to prepare energy for the Clivia to survive the winter. Add bean dregs fertilizer (fermented) to the soil at a ratio of 10:1.

For those who dislike the fat and smell of bean dregs, you can choose air-dried bean dregs cakes.

Fish, meat, and bones are also very good fertilizers.

This way, it will not only keep growing in spring and autumn, but also bloom in winter and summer.

The above is Huahua’s growth method

In addition to these three flowers

Huahua will also introduce other flowers and plants

You can also ask Huahua questions frequently~

<<:  Green radish and gardenia...are they so bald that only the stems are left? Wrap it with a towel, it will take root in 5 days and burst the pot in 1 month!

>>:  Geranium and petunia...Pinch them once and they will grow into a ball in one month!
