How to plant Kalanchoe seeds

How to plant Kalanchoe seeds

1. Seeds

The first point that needs to be explained is that not all Kalanchoe flowers will produce seeds. Generally speaking, only single petals have seeds. In addition, the value of this kind of flower is not high, so it is recommended that you do not sow them. It is best to buy seedlings directly. Of course, fewer people will choose to buy its seeds, so this is also a more difficult way. Because the seeds of this plant are very small, there are about 30,000 to 90,000 seeds in one gram.

2. Matrix

First of all, we need to determine the pH value of the substrate. Generally, we need to give it a pH value between 6.0 and 6.5. In addition, we need to disinfect these things and water them thoroughly. As for the composition of the substrate, we generally use one part peat, one part sand and four parts vermiculite. The specific method is to scatter the seeds on the substrate without covering it.

3. Sprouting

After sowing the seeds on it, we need to cover it with a clean plastic or glass cover, and then place it in a place with scattered light, and be sure not to let the sun shine directly on it. It will germinate in about ten days, but you need to make sure the temperature is around seventeen degrees. After the sprouts come out, we must immediately remove the layer covering them.

4. Light

Because this plant prefers short daylight, if it is planted in January, it is likely to cause overnutrition. However, some people say that before it grows eight leaves, giving it sunlight will not promote the differentiation of its flower buds. Only then will light have an effect on it. Therefore, we can take measures to control it. As long as we give it a certain amount of light from ten o'clock in the evening to two o'clock in the next morning, and continue until March, it will still grow normally.

5. Transplantation

Generally speaking, seven weeks after we plant the seeds, if they have grown to a certain size, we can consider moving them into pots. Generally speaking, seeds sown in mid-March can be sold in December, and their size is about four inches. Around January of the following year, they can grow to five or six inches.
