How to grow orchids so they bloom

How to grow orchids so they bloom

1. Location

Because orchids are not particularly demanding about temperature, it is fine to place them in the open air during the relatively mild spring, summer, and autumn seasons. However, please note that they should be moved to a shaded area in the summer when the ultraviolet intensity is high. In winter, it is best to place it indoors. Even if it is placed outdoors, keep the surrounding area open, well-ventilated and moist. It should be exposed to sufficient light indoors, preferably facing the sun. Be careful to place it on a flower stand or table or bench, not on the ground.

2. Shade

Orchids prefer a semi-shaded environment and are afraid of direct sunlight, so they need appropriate shade when grown. In early to mid-April, the light intensity is low, so you can increase the exposure time appropriately. After late April, you need to control the light intensity. From June to September, when summer comes, you must take shading measures to allow it to grow naturally in a semi-shaded state. When the weather turns cooler in October and the sun's heat decreases, you can reduce the shading time and receive more sunlight.

3. Rain protection

Every plant is afraid of waterlogging. If there is too much rain, water will accumulate in the pot and the plant will easily die due to waterlogging. It can tolerate light rain, but should avoid mildew, showers and continuous rainfall, especially in the southern region. In rainy seasons, you should take shelter from rain in time and pay attention to expelling the heat in the pot, otherwise it will damage the orchid. You can sprinkle some wood ash to adjust the humidity.

4. Watering

For orchids, it is enough to reach 80% humidity each time you water them. During its growing period, attention should be paid to timely replenishing water, and the amount of watering should be reduced during the leaf bud growth stage and flowering period. In winter, orchids will enter a dormant period, so you should water them less or not at all.
