How to plant water hyacinth seeds

How to plant water hyacinth seeds

one. Planting method

1. The first thing is to collect seeds. We can usually choose some ponds where this plant grows and blooms more, and there is no need to salvage it immediately. The fruits of this plant will mature in September or October. When its fruits turn light yellow, we can pick off the bent and fruit-bearing pedicels, and then spread the pedicels and seeds in a cool place to dry. Then we can peel off the peel and take out the seeds.

2. If you gently rub the stigma of a flower that has already exposed pollen between 9 and 10 in the morning when the flowers are in full bloom, you can produce better quality seeds.

3. From late February to early March, soak the plump and yellowish-brown seeds in water at a temperature of 25 to 30 degrees for 10 days, and then you can sprinkle the seeds on the water surface where you want to plant them.

4. And during this process, the ambient temperature should be maintained at 30 degrees. They will germinate after about one to two weeks.

5. When it grows 5 to 6 leaves, its leaf stalks will swell and become buoyant. We can transplant it after its seedlings have branched.

two. Precautions

1. One flower spike of one plant can produce more than 300 seeds, and these seeds are very small. One thousand of them weigh only 0.4 grams and are yellowish-brown in color. These seeds can survive for 5 to 20 years even if they are deposited in mud.

2. This plant has a very strong adaptability and can grow in reservoirs, lakes, ponds, channels, and rivers with relatively slow flows.

3. Conversely, also because of its strong ability to adapt to the environment, it can grow in rice fields, absorb nutrients from crops and affect yields.
