How to deal with daffodils after they bloom

How to deal with daffodils after they bloom

1. Bury the bulbs

Daffodils are perennials, actually bulbs, and if they are buried in the soil, they will continue to grow. The garden site we choose should be sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, and the soil should be relatively deep. The next step is to build higher ridges and place them in the soil, leaving the leaves on top to rest. After one month, the leaves will be dry and dormant. At this time, take the bulb out of the soil, cut off its fine roots, and cut off the yellow leaves along the bottom. Then bury the bulb again, keeping the depth at 10 cm, use rotten fertilizer liquid or feces, and then flatten it.

You can't just save trouble and bury it and ignore everything else, because it takes a long time in the soil, especially in summer and autumn when the temperature is relatively high. If you put it in without the leaves on it and don't water and fertilize it, it will die.

2. Dig the bulbs

After burying it, the next task is maintenance and management. In normal times, as long as we pay attention to providing rich nutrients and maintaining the moisture of the soil, of course we cannot let the water accumulate, the bulbs can grow well. When we dig it out in November and December, we will find that the previous bulbs have rotted and become empty, but there will still be some bulbs around. After digging out the bulbs with larger buds, we clean the dirt except for the surface soil, place them in the sun for a few hours, and then make a "cross" shaped incision on them, keeping their scales intact. In this way, the buds and leaves can grow out. After that we soak it in water for a day, clean the mucus from the incision, and then we can heal it. After 3 days, white fibrous roots will grow at its bottom and will gradually sprout. As for the small bulbs, we don’t need to rush to deal with them. Let them stay in the soil for a year. Then in the second year, when they grow stronger, we can dig them out and cultivate them.
