How to prolong the blooming period of tulips

How to prolong the blooming period of tulips

1. Flowering period

The temperature gradually rises in spring, and the flowers will bloom around March and April, lasting for three or four months. It usually takes 5 to 1 week from blooming to withering. Excluding human intervention factors, it generally grows rapidly from November in winter to before flowering in spring to prepare for flowering, so if you want to extend the flowering period, you can start from this period.

2. Shade

Shade can be provided by tall trees or by building artificial awnings. An exhibition experiment found that for the same variety, the flowering time of plants that were treated with semi-shade in the early stage would be delayed by three or four days, but the overall viewing time could be increased by about five days, so this method is feasible. Provide semi-shading in the first two weeks of flowering, and the shading time will be about one week to half a month.

3. Moisture

The frequency and amount of watering will also affect the time of flowering. I have tried watering once a week and watering every two or three days. The plants that are watered more frequently will bloom for three or four days longer. What is meant here is that before flowering, after the flowers bloom, the water content should be reduced appropriately, just make sure the soil is not dry.

4. Fertilizer

A small amount of nitrogen fertilizer can be added a few weeks before flowering, but not too heavy. Tulips do not have very high requirements for fertilizer, and adding a small amount of fertilizer can prepare better nutrients for the flowering period.

5. Lighting

Most plants like sunlight, and tulips are no exception. During the growing period, the time they receive sunlight can be appropriately extended, and then shading can be provided for a few days before flowering to promote flowering and prolong the flowering time.
